How I met ....

So Joel and I have gotten into the show "How I met your Mother", since Yesterday was the anniversary of our first date, I thought I would share you the story of How Joel and I first met. Don't worry I am not going to give you 6 years of back story.

Friday March 22, 2002 I called my friend Colleen to see what she and her Boyfriend Marty were doing that Night. She had told me that a few friends were going to a Wedding of a guy Marty worked with. I hadn't ever thought of Crashing a wedding before, but she told me to come because there was this guy there that they wanted me to meet. So I quickly changed into Wedding attire, and Headed for this wedding in Lynden, for a couple I had never laid eyes on. So at the reception, Colleen tried to find this Guy named John Doe(Named changed) that she wanted me to meet, but he had not come to the wedding. So Colleen started introducing me to several other single guys at the Wedding.

Now let me give you a little background on my Reptuation, I had a bunch of guy friends that worked at Perry Pallet, who had been trying to set me up with every guy who walked though that door. So by the time this wedding came around Joel had an impression about me, either I was a real wacko or Really ugly (no comments please). So when he met me he thought I appeared to be somewhat normal.

So we were introduced, and talked a little. My friend was trying to get me to go for a truck ride with him, but I was hesitant of Hopping in a truck with a guy I didn't know. Then one of the Bridesmaids, who had been trying to set Joel up with a girl for a long time, came over and told me to go for a ride with him.

Alas the evening ended, although I enjoyed talking with Joel, I can't say their was this instant spark or anything. He was really shy and wouldn't have dreamed of asking me for my number, so a mutual friend told Joel he should give a call and gave him my number.

I am perusing the Internet, Via dial-up connection. We had this service that allowed us to receive messages through our Phone line, while on the computer, we would get the message actually on the computer. This service came with a caller ID on the computer, but a generic message. So I am online and this number that I didn't recognize came up, but no message, probably wrong number. Then a while later it came up, same number, at this point I thought about Joel. I turned to my Mom and told her about the mysterious number coming up twice, but no message (I didn't tell her about Joel). She told me too get offline and she would call the number. She did call the number and told him her name and that this number had come up on her caller ID. The response was silence, and then Joel Perry saying he had called looking for Beth. I quickly grabbed the Phone from My Mom.

Joel told me that some friends were going Ice skating and wondered if I would want to attend. At this point I was unsure if Joel was asking me out on a Date or, if he was just asking me to hang out with friends, So I replied cautiously; "yeah what time are they all meeting". He then asked if I wanted to grab dinner first. I was getting more sure that this would be a date, "yeah sure, do you want to meet somewhere?". Joel then replied "how about I pick you up?". Okay now I was sure this was a date. The conversation went on from there on how to get to my house and such. ( I will say that I did take some money with me, Just in case Joel was one of those guys who thinks a girl should pay for her half, fortunatly I didn't need it).

So that night we had our first date, which I will chronicle for you in a the next post. Let me say it gets funnier from here.
