OK so I know the experts tell us that February is the shortest month, consisting of 28 days, but this year it seemed to last forever and go by fast all in one. It didn't just seem that our social events calender was jammed pack, it was jammed packed. If you looked at our wall calender for February and the last part of January we were busy every Saturday, a lot of Friday nights, and had sometimes stuff going on Sundays after church and in the evenings.
We had Birthdays, Meetings and get togethers for church, work and family, political functions, we helped family move, trips to go sledding at the mountain, Super Bowl and just get together with friends. It seemed it never would end. Too top it off we all got a bad cold through it all, where one Sunday I went to church all by myself.
To demonstrate how bad our hamster wheel life had become, When a church potluck rolled around one Sunday, I was just too tired to think of anything nice or original to bring to a church potluck, So I just brought a pan of Jell-O, with a few berries thrown in (which if you know me, you know how much I like to cook and show off my cooking).
But this Saturday, our social events calender was empty. Joel and I were relieved. I actually turned to him in Bed last night, and said "today was nice". We didn't do anything, besides work on our house, we didn't go anywhere, it was nice.
Now, to all our friends, family, church members, co-workers, and constituents, I am not trying to say that we do not enjoy your company, we do. It just got to be overload for us, and to have a Saturday where we did not need to go anywhere or do anything was a nice break. Call us Country Bumpkins if you want, for liking life in the slow lane. I prefer to think that we prefer Life in the Medium lane (not Median, Yes I know your not supposed to drive there). I mean in a three lane highway, the one in the middle, where you can weave back and forth between the two lanes, but for the most part stay in the middle.
I think it must be a George or Orluske gene that makes us want to cook (or bake) and show it off. Nathan often accuses me of trying to be Martha Stewart.
