Words words words....

"Watch your thoughts for they become words. Watch your words for they become actions. Watch your actions for they become... habits. Watch your habits, for they become your character. And watch your character, for it becomes your destiny! What we think we become"  -Margret Thatcher

Okay so this is my vain attempt to make this Blog deep, Philosophical, and slightly political, but on to more important news (and it ties into the quote, if you are grabbing for straws)

Yesterday while changing the most aromatic diaper ever to grace the inside of our church , as I put the clean diaper on the little wiggle worm child, and got the cute little church pants on (let me just clarify that I was in the nursery doing this, not the sanctuary) Tommy grabbed his feet and patted them together, and I started to sing "Patty Cake". A few seconds later Tommy clapped his hands together (this is a new development that he is very proud of and gives himself a round of applause when he realizes his new accomplishment) and "Paaee". We had a word!!!  Later that night he did it again and turned around and looked at Joel and said "Daa" (now let me clarify, that Joel says he has heard "da" before, but I refused to recognize that as his first word, as the boys both did "da" before "Ma", I mean come on kids, I am with them 24/7, and this guy breezes in every night at 6pm takes them on lawnmower and tractor rides, and they give him the Honor of first word? what am I chopped liver?).

So we have a word, I have something to brag about on the playground (and my blog), now I need to try to be more like my grandmother and teach him to say Antidisestablishmentarianism  (not kidding she did that).  Or I can just wait for the words to flow from him naturally, cause I know there is going to be the day (probably in a long car ride) where I can't get him to shut-up.

So tieing it into Margret Thatcher -
Tommy's thoughts : patty cake
Words:" Paaee"
Action: clapping
Habits: round of applause
Character: someone who gives great praise...... which I don't think is a bad thing!

  1. SO cute! They say Da, because we moms talk about daddy all day to them, so maybe they think we're happy about that word! Which, of course, we are. ;-)
